Episode 08: Airlie Gladman

Meet the 22-year-old Airlie Gladman who was born in Broken Hill and enjoys being creative and takes any opportunity that comes her way.

She is today’s guest on A Home in the Outback, an independent podcast about people living, working and creating in the far west. I also produce private life stories for family history. Please get in touch if that service interests you.

You can listen to the interview on Youtube, Spotify or Apple podcasts.

Airlie is the daughter of Doctor Justin Gladman a local GP at the Clive Bishop Medical Centre in Broken Hill. Her dad trained to be a doctor as a parent and so Airlie and her siblings moved around a lot as children.

The family moved back to Broken Hill when Airlie was in Grade 7 and she has remained here since.

Unfortunately, Airlie was bullied in high school in Broken Hill and eventually dropped out altogether. However, she has a strong work ethic and has taken every opportunity to be creative, a trait she says she gets from her mum.

She has made a themed wedding dress, built her own bed, altered her own clothes, acted in movies and live shows including one at Bells Milk Bar for travellers on the Indian Pacific, and done makeup for the stunt doubles on the upcoming film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Airlie is renovating a house in town with her partner and wants to create a beautiful garden. She is currently studying primary education at university.

You can listen to the interview on YouTube, Spotify or apple podcasts.

The interview will also be rebroadcasted on 2DRY FM on Saturday 6th April at 11am ACST.
